I am a writer, editor and Web content manager with more than 30 years of professional experience. My areas of concentration include education, environment and sustainability, health/medical, legal, real estate and the food business; although in the past year alone I also have written about topics ranging from quantum computing, to human resources management, to immigrants' rights.
Since my 1989 graduation from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism, I have worked full-time as a staff writer for Chicago Lawyer magazine, assistant editor of The Public Innovator newsletter, managing editor of The Neighborhood Works magazine, and in-house editor at Medill.
Since leaving Medill for the second time to become a full-time freelancer in 2002, I have written and edited content for independent consumer and B-to-B publications as well as those based at universities, associations and other non-profits. In addition to articles, I have written case studies and white-papers for foundations, companies and other clients.
I have worked as a digital editor and content manager both at Medill and more recently for both LISC/Chicago and Meatingplace's technical e-newsletters. And I have served as a publications editor for the University of Illinois College of Medicine and the YGS Group.

Yes, I highly recommend Ed Finkel! His instinct to know when to ask the right question and when to melt into the background as an observer only adds to his ability to bring to us a story that is informational, insightful and a great read. I always look forward to working with Ed when I have the good fortune to be contributing visually to one of his stories. -- Eric Young Smith, photographer
